What
colleagues and friends are saying about
CALIFORNIA SKIES, released on July
1st, 2020: |
“It’s
wonderful to hear new music
from the west coast maestro of Western Swing,
Don
Burnham. CALIFORNIA SKIES is chock full
of wonderful songs and musical performances. It
is particularly gratifying to hear the brilliant
playing of the great Bobby Black on steel
guitar.”
—Andy
Reiss, Nashville, TN
“I really love the new CD! Your
voice is like a chocolate malt!
Production is excellent … players
and vocals are spot on!
Great Job!”
—Doc Stein, Battleground, WA
“ I
just got it yesterday, and listened right away. Great
CD, Don! Congratulations … so fun to listen
to!”
—Katherine Roddy (KFAT's "Sully")
“WONDERFUL CD!
This is your best album ever;
what a pleasure!
Aloha.”
—Hal
Glatzer, Big Island, HI
“As usual, Don’s
marvelous BOLOS band features
the cool pedal steel guitar
of BOBBY BLACK”
—Mayne Smith, Richmond, CA
“Don, you still have it … really
enjoying your new CD!”
—Charlie Wallace, Santa Cruz, CA
"Don Burnham's
signature laid-back Western Swing style ...
certain
to please fans and newcomers alike."
—Chuckaroo
the Buckaroo, "Calling All Cowboys" KPOV
“Congratulations!. Great material;
the band is wonderful!
Love
the cover art too!”
—Laurie
Lewis, Berkeley, CA
“Don
Burnham has assembled a group of top-notch musicians
for his new CD. Going way back in time for “It
Happened In Monterey” (written for the movie King
of Jazz in 1930), through “Empty Saddles” from
that same decade, “Fool's Paradise” (from
the 1950s), on up to the title track, written by Nancy
Thorwardson, Don has put together an intriguing canvas
of (mostly) western themed songs, unified by their
relaxed feel and instrumental virtuosity. It's just
the thing to listen to while sitting around your virtual
campfire!”
—Tony Marcus, Oakland, CA
“Every
song is a hit!”
—Jim
Passard, Alameda, CA
“Kept
me smiling the whole drive home from Sebastopol,
except
when I was tearing up at The Toast.”
—Beth
Berkelhammer,
San Francisco, CA
“Loving
your new album!”
—Lynn
Hamilton,
Monterey, CA
“Wonderful!”
—Cheryl
Tanasovich,
Larkspur, CA
“You've
always made great records Don;
CALIFORNIA SKIES is no exception.”
—David
Nielsen, Santa Cruz, CA
